Insurance Case study
Running a critical CRM API platform on hybrid cloud
Operating and automating the APIs behind the insurer's customer relationship core, while cutting their cloud costs by more than half.
24APIs operated and monitored
−60 %cloud cost for the API platform
Context
The insurer’s CRM core squad owns the APIs that every customer-facing channel depends on. They run across on-premise OpenShift and Azure, through non-production and production environments, and they had to stay available while the platform underneath evolved: a person-repository migration and a major CRM version upgrade were on the roadmap.
Approach
Our team took charge of operations and delivery engineering for the squad, working alongside its lead developer and architect.
- Automated deployments and package preparation, and defined the Helm charts for the OpenShift products.
- Managed the APIs’ cloud infrastructure as code with Pulumi, and automated scaling for production peaks.
- Reduced cloud resource costs through automation.
- Built monitoring and alerting with Grafana, Kibana and Dynatrace, so incidents surface before users notice them.
- Planned and coordinated the person-repository migration environment by environment, keeping every consuming team informed.
- Built the deployment, monitoring and patching tooling for the CRM version upgrade, and managed releases.
Results
- 24 APIs operated and monitored across every environment.
- Cloud costs for the platform cut by 60 %.
- The person-repository migration and the CRM upgrade coordinated with every consuming team.
